Did you head off the beaten path this summer? If so, it’s possible the rocky terrain did a number on your suspension. While there are ways to recognize a misalignment, often you won’t notice anything obvious right away. So, how do you know if you need an alignment? Our expert technicians serving Hermitage, PA here at Lakeland Chrysler Jeep® Dodge RAM discuss the tell-tale signs.
When Do You Need an Alignment?
Any time you put a lot of miles on your vehicle or cover rugged terrain, a thorough inspection is worth it. It’s also important if you’ve added anything to your SUV, like lift kit accessories or new tires. If you’ve only driven to and from work, do you need a wheel alignment? Here are a few signs that you may need Jeep auto service:
- The steering wheel pulls from side to side
- You feel extra vibrations in your steering wheel
- The wheel sits crooked even while driving straight
- You notice one tire looks more worn than others
- Your tires are wearing out prematurely
What Do Alignments Do?
Your vehicle is meant to sit at specific angles to evenly distribute the weight across your suspension; the suspension is what connects your vehicle to the wheels. Over time, this can become off-balanced, whether from consistently driving on bad roads or hitting a curb too hard. When the load isn’t evenly distributed, serious damage can incur. In fact, it has the potential to wear out the tie rods, steering bushing, and ball joints and significantly increase tire wear. Proper alignment equals smooth driving and longer-lasting tires.
